1.7 Create a Visual Text (Static Image) Poster

The type of visual text this is is a Film Poster. My static image is based on the film "Walk the Line". As shown on the image above, the images that I've used is a photo Johnny Cash (the main character) and June Carter with their instruments; to show that their the dominant image on this poster and that the instruments are to show that the film is based on their career on music, a fire that is shaped like a circle around the dominant image; to show one of Johnny Cash's song the "Ring of Fire" which was also played in the movie, under that there are two lines; to show  the name of the film which is "Walk the Line" I also colored the line orange because it stands up with that color and so it could also blend in with the fire above, in between those lines there are photos of drugs and alcohol as a symbol; to show that Johnny Cash was addicted to those I put them in between of those 2 lines so it is more noticeable. A photo of a mother of 2 girls is also in between the two lines; they are Johnny Cash's wife Vivian and their 2 daughters. They are colored black to show the relationship between them. The visual feature that I used is a line.

A verbal feature that I used is a quote from the movie where it says "What's with black? It looks like you're going to a funeral." I put this text in a speech bubble that is colored black and the text is colored white so it contrasts the text so it is readable. It is done the same with the other quote where Johnny Cash answered "Maybe I am"; it is pointed at him to show that he was the one who said it. The setting/background of my static image is in a prison; to show where one of the scenes from the movie is set in a prison where Johnny Cash performed in Folsom Prison. Also, if you look on the top left corner you can see the name of the movie "Walk the Line" in bold and I used the 'Times New Roman' font; so it stands out more and would look more like a title. On the bottom left corner, Johnny Cash's name is written in 'Italics' to show that he's one of the main casts in the movie.

Formal Persuasive Writing 1.5

DON'T READ UNLESS YOU'RE THE TEACHER!!!

Formal Persuasive Essay

Technology is responsible for most of our problems today! Does technology even help us? In fact, “technology and social media are ruining our lives”. How? Well technology is actually one of the main reasons why there has been an increased amount of addiction, privacy concerns, and crimes in this society nowadays.

Around 420 million people around the world are addicted to technology; which makes up six percent of the world’s population. You may think that six percent isn’t that bad. Well according to medical terms, technology can actually be addicting and it can have a huge impact in a human’s life. An example of an impact is that being addicted to technology means that it can actually lead to physical and psychological issues. Being addicted to technology such as mobile devices and social media can affect you physically and psychologically by how it can affect your eyesight; also having difficulty focusing. That is just one of the main impacts that technology has affected us.

Another way technology has become one of our problems today is that there has also been a number of crimes due to technology. An example of a crime that has caused technology is that it has allowed criminals/hackers the ability to do illegal activities anonymously online; which can also cause harm to others like when people share too much information online. These types of crimes are called cybercrime. Cybercrime is a type of crime where criminal activities are carried out using computers and networks. The United States is actually one of the top countries that has the highest cybercrime with 23%; followed by China with 9%.

Not only has there been an amount of crimes in this society, there have also been concerns on privacy. Privacy concerns on technology also have a huge impact on people. An example is social media. Social media and any other types of media are good in this society due to the fact that they inform people about the updates, news, and changes that have happened. Although sometimes it can get out of control which is a huge concern. This happens when people take advantage of technology and social media. Some of these personal privacy concerns are that people’s personal information gets leaked online and that’s when people take advantage of them by scamming them; they start to do illegal stuff online; using other people’s information.

Although technology is bad, it can also have some benefits in this society like how it affects the way people interact with other people through social media, helps easier communication, and efficiency. This is shown by how with education, 62% of the students globally prefer using technology with their learning. It has also shown that technology has improved learning and working because you can work in tons of ways with technology.

These are some of the main impacts that technology has harmed or affected society and how it has/can also benefit. They are that technology can be addicting, has caused crimes, and privacy concerns. But it can also have advantages which are that it helps with the interaction, communication, and it speeds the work/learning that has been done.

Film Extract - Walk the Line

Questions

1. What is the text about? How do we know?

The text from the 'Walk the Line' film extract was about how intense and scary the concert was due to Johnny Cash being drugged. We see this when the camera zooms in to Johnny Cash's face which shows his red eyes. It also showed how he was out of control with drugs which affected his life as a singer.

2. What genre does this text belongs to?

The genre of this text is musical but also scary. This is because of how it was a concert but with a drugged singer, Johnny Cash who was lost but still performed but couldn't finish it. It was showed how scary it was due to the camera motions and how Johnny was performing because of how he was lost.

3. Are there gaps and silences in the text?

There were no gaps and silences in the film because it was crowded with people because it's a concert so people were screaming and the band was playing loud even when Johnny Cash fainted, there was still no silences.

4. Who's views are excluded and privileged in the text?

Only teenagers, young adults and adults are probably the only allowed people to watch this film and not children because there was a part when Johnny Cash swore and it is also because of how drug is part of the film.
